About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

My Mom - My Age (about)

This is especially for Willemina because I told her that she reminded me of my Mom when my Mom was around our age. I remember her as always being so beautiful, even just before she passed away at age 82 in 2002. She was a very intelligent woman, social and chatty. I really miss her as we were very close.

Thank you Leslie, that's a BIG compliment as your mother is very beautiful...I love the color of her hair. Sometimes mine looks like that but then the gray comes in and I have to get it done again only it never looks the same (usually takes a week or two to get it just the way I want it).
What color are your mother's eyes?
I just came home from work and want to check out the rest of the blog, thanks again for posting your mother's beautiful pic just for me!
P.S. Babette, you're so cute!

Hi Willy, Mom's eyes were a lovely soft blue. My Dad has brown eyes, so of course we girls were a mish-mash. My older sister has hazel eyes, my younger one has light brown eyes, and I have green eyes. Both MY daughters have beautiful dark blue eyes (like my late husband).

DC That's what I thought! They do say that everyone has a twin "out there somewhere." I should check my geneological chart and see if there IS any connection. I know my Mom had an aunt and uncle living in California long ago - maybe Willy's a cousin several times removed???

Willy So, what was your maiden name? I'm going to look at my geneology chart to see if there's any connection. :)

Now remember that I'm Dutch...MY maiden name is Rademaker. I grew up with the name Willemina Rademaker! Don't you feel sorry for me? When I was young I didn't like my name and wanted to use my middle name Diana. Now that I'm older, I like it alot. I have only met a few Willemina's in my lifetime and one was my aunt. I was named after Queen Wilhelmina of Holland (only spelled different)
My eyes are also blue...my ex had brown as do three of my children. Only my daughter Lisa has green eyes...
Did you check the SB blog? There are pics from Chicago! Not many comments yet, I guess everyone's still at work? I started to mow my lawn and came in for water, I use the old fashioned push mower so it's a great workout for me...gotta go out and finish the lawn now, I'll check back later...

Okay Willy, now get THIS! My mother's name was Gretchen. You can't get any more Dutch than that! Probably no connection, but errie nonetheless. I saw the photos on SB site but didn't see his interview - it was probably just on Fox local TV. It'll be interesting to see how the Chicago shindig pans out.

Hi again...I knew what you meant silly! Do you remember my blogg on misspelled words?

Your mother's maiden name was Gretchen? That sure sounds Dutch to me...hey, maybe we are related somewhere down the line?

Both of my parents immigrated to California in 1948 with my brother who was a year old at the time. I was born in Los Angeles (the first american born in my family) and we moved to Torrance, CA when I was 6 months old. (Torrance is only 5 miles from MB) My mother lived there for over 50 years. Now she lives here in Central CA.
By the way, the King Tut Exhibit was amazing! I love museums and I was fascinated by the beautiful condition of the furniture and personal items which belonged to the boy king over 3,000 years ago!
