Springtime Garden

Forgot to put in this photo of my weeping birch.

This is my Mother's Day bouquet that metalxmonkey cut from the garden and arranged for me. Isn't it beautiful?

  1. What gorgeous pictures!!!!
You can grow Calla Lilies outside?!!
    What are the yellow flowers?

Who'd think Canada is ~2 weeks ahead in blooms from Ohio. My 16 Rhododendrons show just a tiny hint of color, they usually open up at the end of May. The Lilacs are in various stages, depending on how sunny an area their in.

    My sister would say:
"Gardening has such wonderful results, its fun to watch things grow. And plants don't talk back to you (like children)"

    Thanks for sharing,
    Ellen

  2. Actually, Ellen, most of Canada would probably be like Ohio. In Vancouver and surrounding areas, the climate is VERY mild because we are surrounded by the mountains and border on the ocean (although buffered by Vancouver Island). Our climate is much like that of San Francisco, believe it or not. Vancouver's nickname is "Lotusland." Our lilacs are out in full bloom here but I, sadly, don't have any bushes. And my calla lilies grow like WEEDS here - I'm considering pulling some of them up 'cuz they just take over everywhere. I have to get my fans out tomorrow - it's so hot I hope I can sleep tonight.

  3. HI, Leslie. Just thought I would pop in and see how you're doing. Still thinking about you. Your garden looks gorgeous. Can you believe this beautiful weather? I don't think most folks would believe that it was almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit in Kamloops yesterday, would they? Looks like an early summer.

Hope you are well. I will call you after the long weekend and MAYBE we can finally get together :-)

  4. I agree wholeheartedly...
    your garden is absolutely georgeous!
Thanks for the pictures. I have some flowers but nothing like yours...Roses do very well here but I can't have them because the mule deer come down from the hills and eat them. Calla lillies also do well here and I have one of those outside and some african daisies in various shades of lavender. I also like little white daisies and white allyssum (smells nice)

    Your garden also sounds lovely...

  5. Hey Willy, Josie and I don't measure the distance between us in miles 'cuz we're only about 1/2 hour apart. We are planning on getting together soon - right Josie? LOL

  6. Hi, Willemina, according to the map I have here, the distance from the area where I live to the area where Leslie lives is about six miles.

Yes, we have been planning to meet, and all sorts of things have happened. We will keep you posted.

All seems to be quiet on the SB blog, as of late.

  10. Wonderful garden, Leslie. Your callas are stupendous. I'm envious. Thank you for dropping by mine, and please come back. A pedagogue, eh. I used to be one of those, for a number of years. And, any friend of Josie's is a friend of mine.

  11. Hi, Leslie. Unwinding? One of the doctors at work treated us all to a feast today. I don't think I will be able to eat for another week.

I was finally able to figure out how to post my little pencil drawing to my blog.

Have a great weekend. Wouldn't you know it's going to rain. Tomorrow is the opening of Kits Pool and I'm going swimming come hell or high water...

    Have a great weekend.

  12. Hey Josie! It's sunny out my end of town :) Today's my younger daughter's birthday (26) so all the family plus some of her friends are coming over for special hot dogs (not the plain ole ordinary ones - I'll tell you our recipe when we get together). And strawberry shortcake for a b'day cake. MMMMMM....

I saw your "Freddie's Apple" gosh I have such talented friends! My friend Suzanne (from Arizona) is in California right now visiting her Mom and doing some oil painting there. She gave me the most beautiful painting of roses when I went to visit her in Feb. I hope you all get to meet some day.

Well, off to get the house tidied up for the party. Talk later.
