Welcome to ABC Wednesday where this week we honour the letter Q as in queen, quit, quiet, quintessence, queer, and quench. This time, I'm basing my post on the word QUAINT and would like to share with you a few photos from my summer travels in England and Wales that I felt were rather quaint...like shops, gardens and garden pots, artwork, restaurants, and more. The word "quaint" defines things that have an old-fashioned charm, are oddly picturesque like a quaint old house, are peculiar or unusual in an interesting or amusing way, or are skillfully or cleverly made. Dear friends John and Marion took me to see Jane Austen's museum where I saw her bed, writing desk, and artwork while other dear friend Liz took me to the most quaint town of Tenby in Wales. Wait until our T week! And because my dear friend Jill has lived near Whitby, North Yorkshire all her life, she knows all the shortcuts to out-of-the-way spots that most tourists would never see. Thus, I got to wind my way through narrow alleys to see the most beautiful and quaint back gardens and quaint little shops that only the locals know about. So click on the photo below, turn up your music, click the arrows for full screen, and enjoy!
what a wonderfully well chosen word leslie, I would not have thought of it but i like without any doubt, as I do your photo's of course.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the loo at all things QUAINT.
Love the 'Bobbie' ~ and other quaint items ~ When in London, I only saw one ~ don't they have them anymore?
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Happy Week ~ ^_^
Oh how I appreciate quaint. Thank you for sharing and I hope this week is going well for you...
ReplyDeleteAnd...we tried climbing to the top of Snowden in 2006. It was such a windy day we had to turn back. We stayed in Conwy which was great. Thanks for the memories in your slide show!
ReplyDeletewhy is "quaint" sometimes pejorative?

Such a wonderful post for Quaint with Q.
ReplyDeleteHappy ABCW!
Quaint it is, Leslie:) Am glad you didn't choose queer. Sorry, that naughty streak of mine just popped out. Thanks for visiting me today!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have enjoyed your stay in Wales, which is so interesting and quaint, that I can feel the Jane Austin atmosphere in the old villages and small towns. I've read all Jane Austin's novels most of them were set in castles and beautiful mansions.
ReplyDeleteAs always, a wonderful Smilebox - loved all your quaintness...
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your quaint photographs in the quietness of my studio. Blessings, my friend!
ReplyDeleteHi leslie,
ReplyDeletelove the bobby on the opening page, They don't often wear the big
helmets on duty now. He looks like the laughing policeman at the fairground.
I loved the Jane Austen Museum, I would love to visit that,
maybe I will on one of our travels.
Conwy used to be a favourite vising spot on days out with our parents
when we were small, that little Welsh lady was standing out side of
her small house all those years ago. She's wearing well!
Nice and interesting post.
love Di,
ABCW team.
Quite quaint and lovely photographs. I wonder if the Jane Austin writing desk was for letters because I remember some 'where authors wrote' photographs that showed something that looked like a tiny pedestal coffee table which was said to be where she mostly wrote her novels. I wonder if that is in the museum.
ReplyDeleteGosh that was a lovely journey of quaintess. I like Liz's garden. That's my goal for our front yard. Thank you!
