About Me

Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

THE WASHCLOTH

I was due for an appointment with the gynecologist later in the week. Early one morning, I received a call from the doctor's office to tell me there was a cancellation and the 9:30am appointment was available. I took it. I had only just packed everyone off to work and school, and it was already around 8:45 am. The trip to his office took about 35 minutes, so I didn't have any time to spare.

As most women do, I like to take a little extra effort over hygiene when making such visits, but this time I wasn't going to be able to make the full effort.

So, I rushed upstairs, threw off my pajamas, wet the washcloth that was sitting next to the sink, and gave myself a quick wash in "that area" to make sure I was at least presentable. I threw the washcloth in the clothes basket, donned some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment.

I was in the waiting room for only a few minutes when I was called in.

Knowing the procedure, as I'm sure you do, I hopped up on the table, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended that I was in Paris or some other such glamorous place a million miles away.

I was a little surprised when the doctor said, "My, we have made an extra effort this morning, haven't we?" I didn't respond.

After the appointment, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home. The rest of the day was normal... some shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc.

After school when my six year old daughter was playing, she called out from the bathroom, "Mommy, where's my washcloth?"

I told her to get another one from the cupboard.

She replied, "No!!!".

Now wait for it......., this is too funny not to be true!!!)

She yelled, " I need the one that was here by the sink, it had all my glitter and sparkles saved inside it!"

hi leslie,

i must be the first one reading this. it is so funny. i'm just imagining all of the sparkle and glitter--what the doctor must have really thought, other than what he said. this is really funny.

hi Leslie,
That is really funny. It reminds me of a story my brother in law told regarding his residency. He went in to check a woman out and she must have had "green stamps" in her purse at one time. She must have used a tissue to clean herself up. Green stamps and all.
Someone is looking out for us today, it's called feminine wipes. In the feminine hygeine department of the grocery store.

Now that is funny!!

Now, on a different subject, you got me "motivated"!! I read on one of your posts you were starting to excercise and eat healthier? How is that going? I cant got to a gym, but I do walk alot, and am trying to have lettuce/yogurt for lunch. I find myself sitting so much that I try to walk on breaks etc to at least get some excercise. Keep up the great work!! And please help keep me motivated!!

May you and your sister know my prayers are with your family at this time. Just the word "Cancer" alone is a scary thing. How lucky she is to have a sister as loving and supportive as you!
