About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

D is for Destination Disneyland

This week, D1 and her husband, along with their two children, are in Disneyland. Therefore, it's an apt subject for our D week here at ABC Wednesday. I remember when my late husband and I took D1 and D2 to Disneyland in November of 1989 when D1 had just turned 13 and D2 was 9 1/2. Walt Disney said, "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." And so it has changed since it opened on July 17, 1955. When I went back in 2000 with a girlfriend, I saw a lot of new things. But it has changed even since then! So I'm hoping my daughter and her family will have a wonderful time and bring back lots of photos and memories of their visit. Here are some photos from 1989 when we were there.

We left Disneyland exhausted, but happy. After all, they say it's the "happiest place on Earth!" What more can I say about it, since everyone knows about it even if they haven't been able to go there. There are "lands" all over the world now - in Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, along with California and Florida in the USA. I'd love to go and see the one in Florida as I've heard that the Epcot Center is amazing because it showcases countries from around the world.

When D1 and family return from their trip, I'll see if she'll let me post some photos of their holiday.

Awww, this brings back memories of when we took our young 'un's to the Paris one (I had to dig the photo's out to PROVE to the girls they really did go there, the little tykes had no memory at all of it, they being too young at the time).

How lovely that it is now your daughter's turn to take HER children along!

Disneyland looks great. And the memories are very precious! We have a fairy tale park designed by the Dutch artist Anton Pieck in the south of my country. It is also very beautiful and one can spend a whole day walking around. We don't have to be children to enjoy being in those amusement parks, do we?!
Have a fabulous week, Leslie!

I'm sure your daughter had a wonderful time. Strangely, I have never wanted to go to Disneyland (or the closer Disney World) Am not sure what that says about me.

Disneyland is one of my favorite places. We haven't been in 3 years and I am suffering withdrawls. I hope you can make it to WDW too. It is totally fascinating and you will love every part of it.

This brings back memories of our visit to Disneyland! I had seen images of Disneyland in movies and loved the giant teacups. Of course, that was the first ride I took!

Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Wonderful fun, Leslie. Disneyland appeals to everyone. I first saw it when I was 21, and again when I was 32, and enjoyed it both times!

It is literally years since I've been to Disneyland and we only live an hour away. But they have become SO expensive and since we have no grand children the need doesn't really arise. But we did enjoy it when we took our sons long ago. My one son's step daughter (unofficial) loves Legoland and that is just 20 minutes away.

I've never been to Disneyland and I doubt that I ever will, but I am a avid fan of Disney's films for children, and often write posts about them.
My favourites are the older fairy tale-films like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfts and Cinderella. I plan to write about one of the characters in Cinderella when we get to the letter 'L'.

Thank you for sharing your memories!

I agree it's the happiest place in the world. And when I first visited the place I couldn't help I cried because I wanted my nieces and nephew to experienced how fun it is to be there. But they can't they live in the Philippines. Nice pictures memories are forever.

Everyone has to visit the Disneyland once in their life time. We visited twice and are looking forward to take our grandchildren to visit.
