About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

F is for FLORENCE

Florence - one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It's full of history, art, pageantry, fabulous food, and stupendous scenery! It has been far too long since I was there and I can hardly wait to return and spend more time wandering around the streets, window shopping and buying leather goods and jewelry. I'd also love to take at least one cooking course and spend a day at the Uffizi gazing at the art. Here are some photos from my previous visit - the statue of David, flag throwers in a parade, statue in the Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo, a street artist, and a parade that happened by just as we arrived in the piazza!
ABC Wednesday is the brainchild of Denise Nesbitt and she has added a great team to help her out weekly by visiting various participating blogs. Join in - it's lots of fun and you meet people from all over the world!

Oh … your photos bring back wonderful memories of my visit to Florence, Leslie! We were not allowed to photograph the original David in the gallery … only the replica of him in the City Square. You were lucky to get that shot. :)

I went to Italy 28 years ago, it never leaves your soul. I will return one day, I just know it.

Wonderful, colourful post Leslie, - somehow I never thought of the David being that large - love the chalk work, too, - saw a lot of that on the streets in London.

What a magnificent building that is. I have traveled to many countries, but never to Italy.

This was a wonderful tour of Florence. That statue of David is massive, seeing how small the people look standing below it.

Ah! Florence! I feel like I know the place because of art history courses and seeing David Rocco's program on TLN. Seeing your photos confirms my wish to visit the beautiful city.
