About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

P is for PARTY

As Rod Stewart sang, "Yeah, clap your hands - We're having a party, dancing to the music" this week.  Yes, our big day is Thursday, May 1st, 2014, and the ceremony begins at noon.  So about a half hour later, I will be able to call myself "Leslie Evans."  If you've been following my recent blogs, you will recall that it's been a long time coming.  I never wanted to go back to my maiden name and I was never really accepted by my first husband's family once he was gone.  Both my daughters have married names now, so I'm thrilled to take my new husband's name.

So we will party after the ceremony in a "respectable" manner at the high tea we have planned, complete with official cake cutting, speeches, toasts, and the first dance.  Then around 6pm, we will gather at our friends' place to continue partying into the night.  That will be a "get-down, boogie woogie, have a drink and dance on the patio under the tiny white garden lights" type of party.  The weather forecast is for a sunny and warm day, so the evening will be clear and the stars will shine down upon us.

I wrote the following poem back in December of 2011 with our marriage in mind.

UNITY

Unity is a milky, pearly white.

It looks like starlight on a clear, bright night.

It sounds like a cob calling to his pen.

It smells like popcorn shared in the den.

It tastes like sweat as we share one life.

It feels like serenity throughout the strife.

Unity is two, a husband and wife.
And Lorne took this photo down by the river in our village. I love it so much that it is on our wedding website, which you are welcome to view if you like. It's here.

Stay tuned for photos!  I will post them as I get them.  And if you're so inclined, it would be nice if you would pray for health, happiness, and a long life together for us.  Thanks!  In the meantime, don't forget to silently (or in print) thank the playful Mrs. Nesbitt for her creative ABC Wednesday and Roger, our perspicacious administrator.

All the very best! We partied after the semi-formality of a Chinese meal with speeches etc. It was the last time I really danced but special for that.

Enjoy every minute!
