About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

U is for UNDISCIPLINED

I was totally stumped about this week for the letter U.  I researched the Internet and went through my photos and couldn't figure out what to do...until I was looking at the shots I have of Tegan, our 18-month-old yellow English Lab.  And suddenly I had it - UNDISCIPLINED.  It's taken us a long time to train her, but looking back and seeing how undisciplined she was, I think we've done a pretty good job teaching her to be a good, friendly, well-trained dog.

The only unfortunate thing is that she may be a bit too friendly because she loves to greet everyone and anyone she sees and sometimes that can be a bit frightening for those who don't know her.  She goes bounding up, unbidden, circles the person while wiggling and waggling her tail before running back to us pell-mell.  I know that if I saw some huge animal coming at me, I'd be rather upset myself.

Ah well, this week deserves a humorous little slideshow showing Tegan in training.  You may have seen a few of these shots before, but they all tie into the story of her training.  Enjoy and please have a wonderful week.  Do remember to think of the unequivocal Mrs. Nesbitt, the creator of ABC Wednesday, and the unflagging Roger, our administrator, for keeping us all upbeat each week.

Lovely post Lesley,
Tegan is undoubtedly the most gorgeous girlie dawggie in BC, she's so pretty.
I'd love to give her a big cuddle. My sister had a boy Labrador of similar colouring to Tegan he was gorgeous too!
Love Di..xx
I've actually done my U post for abcw, pehaps you would kindly check to see if I've linked it properly...I'm learning something new nearly every day xxx

George is so clumsy that I am always afraid he will knock over a child or an old person! Even with the very best of intentions. It would be lovely if he and Tegan could meet!

Tegan is one sweet dog.
Love how you have trained him.
We are going to be dog-sitting our Granddogger starting Friday...Oh boy, it will be a challenge.
Snicker(doodle) is a sweet loving girl but the Labradoodle...lots of poodle...can be wearing on us sometimes. Never having had a dog, has made this a real learning experience for me. 10 days!! We have had her for a weekend, but never this long.
She is so social that she greets just like your pup. It can be scary to those who don't know her.
So...maybe there will be photos forth coming from this adventure.

Indiscipline is often a lack of good habits and bad habits too much!

Labrador are the friendliest of dogs, I love their character. I enjoyed looking back on your year of training. Is it you or Tegan being trained:-)

indiscipline or to be undisciplined is a very inane trait isn't it?

This made me smile, Leslie. It also made me think of something Jean Donaldson (an amazing trainer and author) said in her first book, "The Culture Clash." The gist of it was that we ask dogs to give up all the behaviours that are most natural to them in return for our love, a warm place to sleep and regular meals. Tegan is willing to do that because she has just the best life with you and Lorne!
