About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

ONWARD

IT'S OFFICIAL! I'M RETIRED! I love this photo of the cruise ship heading out from Vancouver under the Lion's Gate Bridge. I can envision myself onboard in August with a bunch of great (single) people heading for Alaska. (actually I'll be leaving from Seattle). After that, a trip to California to mix business with pleasure before settling down to writing that long-awaited book. Have an awesome summer everyone. What are your plans? Blog on..

Today was pretty good. At assembly this morning, the principal acknowledged me as a great teacher and thanked me for all my years at the school teaching Grade 4 and French. The parents and kids gave a rousing applause (I was really quite overwhelmed). Then this afternoon, so many kids that I've taught French to came by my Grade 4 classroom to give me cards, gifts, hugs, and "I'll miss you"s. Lots of parents also came and wanted a photo op with their kid(s) and stayed on to chat and wish me well in the future. I only live a few blocks from the school so I know I'll see everyone when I pop in to say Hello or am out grocery shopping, etc. but it won't be the same. I'm not at all sad, but rather looking forward with excitement and anticipation to the next chapter of my life. I pray everyone feels the same way when it's their turn to retire.

Congratulations Leslie,
I did the Alaskan Cruise from Seattle this time last year. I can't believe it's been a year since Grams and I went to Alaska and on our cross country trek. Which brought me into our traveling group of woman.
I hope your next year is as fun as my last year was.
Enjoy your next adventure.

The best thing about retirement, I would imagine, is the escape from the daily grind and setting your own work pace. Have fun on your Alaskan cruise with Richard and Co. and hope we get to share the highlights with you through your blog.

Congrats Leslie on your retirement...
Of course you're loved by all of your students...we all love you too and wish you well as you continue on lifes journey.

I don't see myself retiring in the near future...it would be so nice to just do whatever or don't do whatever..know what I mean? Going to work every day is getting old..or should I say, making me old? :)
Very soon you'll be cruising off into the sunset...you'll have to keep us posted.

Leslie, have a wonderful time on your cruise, and please be sure to say hello to Richard for me.

Anyway, hopefully we'll get together before then.

Thx everyone! I know only one thing for sure - that I've set aside one year to work on the book. After that, who knows?

That bridge just doesn't look tall enough for that boat!

I'll be looking for you as I spend my time between English Bay and Vancouver Island!
