About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

My Hero

He had just saved her from a fire in her house, rescuing her by carrying her out of the house into her front yard, while he continued to fight the fire.

She is pregnant.

When he finally got done putting the fire out, he sat down to catch his breath and rest.

A photographer from the Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper, "The Observer," noticed her in the distance looking at the fireman.

He saw her walking straight toward the fireman and wondered what she was going to do.

As he raised his camera, she came up to the tired man who had saved her life and the lives of her babies, and kissed him, just as the photographer snapped this photograph.

And people say animals are dumb

CALLA LILIES - Beauties or Beasts???

The peonies are starting to droop but the lavendar just keep blooming! Notice all the calla lilies. This is part of the front garden.
The calla lilies keep growing like weeds! This is along the driveway.
Here's a big rhodo & MORE Callas by the patio.
More rhodos and callas...back garden.
and the other side of the house.
They do make lovely bouquets, though.
Don't you think?
And here's my fireman hero at the Ladner May Days Celebration :)

Metalxmonkey's birthday

We had a great time on Jaclyn's 26th birthday. She takes after her Mom in that she sure doesn't look her age (i.e. younger). After some time at home with prezzies, food, and cake the girls headed out for a fun night of karaoke. Wish I could have gone to get some shots from there! :)

Springtime Garden

Forgot to put in this photo of my weeping birch.

This is my Mother's Day bouquet that metalxmonkey cut from the garden and arranged for me. Isn't it beautiful?

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all my good friends out there in Cyberland! Anyone have any memories they'd like to share? Happy/Sad, Good/Bad. Here's mine - when my dear mother was dying from Alzheimer's disease four years ago, my sister spent an evening with her in the hospital. The end would be just 2 days away and Mom was in and out of the "present." At one point, thinking my sister was ME, Mom said, I've always loved you the most, Leslie." My sister didn't tell me this until just last year. I almost cried - for her - because I could not imagine what heartbreak it must have been for her to hear that. I just wish it could have been me there at that moment.
