About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

T is for TIME

I noticed that Troy wrote about TIME for his introduction this week, so it gave me an idea to run with the same topicThanks, Troy!

I agree with Troy when he questions "Where has the time gone?"  I think about this in terms of my life, the lives of my children and grandchildren, the fact that my parents are now gone and I'm the "next generation" to look forward to whatever comes next.

I think about Lorne and me and how we loved each other so long ago and still totally love each other today.  Where did those years go when we were apart?  I'm am so grateful that we're together again at last...for eternity now!

I think about my late husband and find it almost unbelievable that it has been 22 years since he died.  He never got to see the Internet or all the technological advances of today's society.  He would have loved it!

I think about the births of my daughters and it seems like it was only yesterday!  But now they are both married ladies, one of whom is also a mother.  I think about the births of these grandchildren and wonder how one is already in double digits and halfway through elementary school. I took this photo of them down at Centennial Beach when they stayed over for a few nights summer of 2012.
I think about the pets I've had because life to me is not total without a cat or dog (which I prefer) to which I can give total unconditional love and from which I receive the same.  Tegan is now our baby girl and I love her so much!
It's true that the older we get, the faster time seems to travel.  With that in mind, I try to make a point of living each moment to its fullest.  For example, today when I was tutoring my 10-year-old grandson, I lifted up his long curly hair to look in his ear and told him "Yes, you do have a brain in there!" and we both laughed!  And I will never ever forget when my 6-year-old granddaughter Eden told me I looked like a "Princess Bride" on my wedding day!
Speaking of our wedding day, I'd like to thank everyone for all the good wishes sent to us through this blog!  We may be well into the autumn of our lives now, but we are so thankful for all our friends who took the time to wish us well.  We are still looking forward to a honeymoon and hopefully it's not in the too distant future since Lorne will be having his surgery on June 11th.  Hopefully, he will bounce back and be well enough for us to have a "mini-moon" in September.

Thanks also to the trendy Mrs. Nesbitt, creator of ABC Wednesday and to the talented Roger, our administrator, without whom we might be terribly tardy with our contributions to ABCW.  Have a terrific week!

PS:  Did you notice that I used mauve for the highlighted words this week?  That was the accent colour for our wedding!  And did you notice that my shoes were mauve silk?

There's actually some fancy term for that effect whereby time goes by faster as we age. Can't recall what it is...

Have you also noticed that distances (from childhood: the walk to school, the length of the garden) are shortened as you age? I used Google Maps to check out some places I lived when a child - teeny tiny in comparison with my memories!

Time is speeding by, I agree, so we have to make concrete memories which is why I scrapbook. Must do more!

Excellent post Leslie! Time is not something you can grasp and hold in your hands. It is different inthe experience of each of us. It depends on what we are doing and how we are spending it. I have the feeling that time flies so fast that I cannot keep up with it. It's scary. There still is so much to do, to read, to learn, to see, to hear.....
I wish you a great week!
Wil, ABCW team.

For me this last year has flown by. I'm not sure why. All I want is time to relax up at the float cabin, but once I get there the time really seems to fy. - Margy

Time was my first choice for T as well, but I go so confused with Newtonian Time and Immanuel Kant's ideas of time and Einstein's theory of relativity, so I left all the philosophy of time and space and eternity to rest and chose the Trembling Aspen instead. You did much better at it Leslie!!

Totally love your shoes and I am so glad that Time allowed you and Lorne to reconnect and now it's on to eternity.
This really is a wonderful post Leslie.

Great post. I used to wonder where the years went but now I wonder where the decades went.

Sometimes I'd wonder 'where did all those years go?'. It's been a decade since I left univ and yet it doesn't seem like a long time ago. I agree with Wil's comment - "There still is so much to do, to read, to learn, to see, to hear....." There really is no point keeping up with time, I just have to do things at my own pace and make the most of everyday. XD

I hope you're having a great week!! :)

"T"= things to be thankful for.

You do look like a princess bride while standing as a youthful matriarch of a beautiful family!

May time be good to you all.

Best,

Time is truly an off concept, isn't it? We never realize how much of it we waste…and then complain because we don't have enough of it! We all have a finite amount of time on this earth and should not squander it by being mad, sad or bitter about life. Once again, congratulations on your recent marriage! May you both enjoy the time you have together and make it count! Blessings to you.

Foolishly I thought time might seem to slow down once I was retired. Ha! Not so at all. I hope that Lorne is a fast healer so you can have a mini-moon, much like my parents, I suspect who had their weekend off.
Your wedding dress is so lovely, as is the lady who's wearing it. Oh, yes, I did notice your lovely mauve shoes!

Such a beautiful post, Leslie. You are one of those delightful people who use Time with such wisdom and fun and spirit. Three Things That Total Tranquility.

My Dad tells me that I'm too obsessed with time and how much I have left versus how much I feel I've wasted. It's about finding the moments in time to anchor myself to.

Thank you for sharing your memories and your pictures.

Quite a thoughtful meditation on time! As the wise have said, life an time are the true most effective teachers. Enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing some lovely pictures there!

I've been thinking of just that topic lately. It does fly after 60 for some reason. Your grandchildren are beautiful and love the little ones comment on your wedding day.

Time flies but where does it fly to ?
I make the most of my time by cooking (when I'm able), I love reading and researching everything and anything on my PC. It' a good job, in the fast growing world of technology, that I'm able to use my PC, every day I learn something new...Thanks to you Leslie for taking the TIME to help me and also Anne from Oxfordshire, she too has taken the time to help me.
I can see in such a short matter of Tie how Noah and Erin have grown...It only seems like yesterday since she was born... The wonderful TIME that you, Lorne your friends and family had celebrating your long awaited marriage.... all in good Time.
Wonderful writing Leslie, I hope you and Lorne will soon be able to take you honeymoon in the sun with swaying palm trees...all in good TIME dear Leslie...love Di.

I have at last posted my piece on the letter 'T', can you please take the TIME to see if it has arrived on ABCW for me please Di..xx
