About Me

I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

Footprints in the sand

I have a good friend who is going through a particularly stressful time right now. I shared this poem with her and hope it helped because it's helped me in times of trouble, too. If you're of a mind to, please pray for peace and healing in her life. This is the original version of the poem written in 1936 by Mary Stevenson.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”

The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”

That's a very precious poem and I can remember times in recent years when I knew I was being carried by a very loving God. I hope things go well for your friend.

Hi Leslie,
Someone gave me that poem framed quite some time ago. I find it very comforting..

I loved the picture when I saw it and it reminded me of all the times I went to the beach to get away from my stress. I'd take my walkman, find a good log and listen to music as I gazed out over Boundary Bay. I would just pray and pray and pray and eventually would find some peace.

Be assured that God is a loving God, and is able to bring peace and healing. This I relate from personal experience. I pray your friend will experience this too of God.

When I woke up this morning, I could hear the rain drumming down and I thought, "We're going to the market anyway!" So now the sun is starting to come out and we'll be off shortly. Stay tuned for news of the Ladner Village Market. :D
