About Me

Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

B is for BOXES

Continuing with the theme of a new life with "mi amore," this week B is for BOXES. As of the first of August, we're "officially" living together as a couple and as such all his stuff is now here. Wow! it's going to be a lot of work trying to rearrange the house so it's "ours" now.

My house has been rather feminine to date, so I'm finding it a bit difficult to accept his style and taste in some things. For example, the art I prefer is more Impressionistic whereas he prefers bright colours. He has some really nice antique pieces, which I do like, but they look a bit out of place with my more traditional decor. I have a small and ancient Sony CD player that sits on top of my TV, whereas he has the whole shebang - music center with hundreds of LP's and CD's.

However, I know everything will work out fine in the end and I'm hoping that next week I won't have to write C is for chaos or clutter, but rather C is for comfort or coziness. OR I could do C is for Clothes or Closet - I've never known any man to have so many clothes and shoes in my life! I already put my wintery things in another closet to make room for his things and we're going to have to buy one of those adjustable shower curtain rods to put in the upstairs storage room for "some" of his things. *sigh*

Anyway, enjoy the B is for Boxes this week and wish me luck with this mess! Be sure to click on the photos to enlarge them!

A very current theme - we all have to many boxes. In my experience everybody should move every third year. That helps in getting rid of things.

Good luck with those boxes :-D It´s always difficult when two adults move together, because they both have everything and they both love their own things. Althought, I´m happy for You two!

This is so exciting : ) It makes me smile big. And there probably will be clutter for a little while, but that's ok. Clutter goes away eventually : )

I've moved so many times, boxes are very familiar to me :-)
And clutter.

I think this must be an exciting time....setting up a new home, as it were. :) Enjoy.

Being a chaotic personality myself, I urge you not to look down on chaos. Chaos can be comfortable too. Come to the dark side!

I agree with RunE we should all have a good clear out now and again! We have lived here for 19 years! Gosh!
So happy for you Leslie, to think we have witnessed this transition from the early tentative date! Hugs to you! Hope to meet up one day! (Bring some boxws!!!) xx

One of my favorite blog posts is moving is easy - unless it's YOUR stuff. I've probably moved 30 times, though not in the past 10 years, so I relate.

I'm sure you will get it all sorted out eventually. When we moved to this house 5 years ago, many boxes were temporarily stored in the garage. After a year, I finally got around to sorting them out, but realized if I hadn't needed them in a year, did I really need them?! Next week's C could also be for compromise as you decide whose stuff goes where:)

Wow, that is a lot of boxes! They're all so neat and tidy too! I hope you get them all integrated soon and that C will be for Comfortable and Congenial!

That reminds me of moving here! It must be strange having to adapt to someone else's taste but also exciting! Look forwsrd to reading next week's "C".

How appropriate! And best wishes!
I just remarried at 50 and we had a struggle to combine 2 households in 1. But it was well worth it.
Take care.

Wow--I'm in the same boat here too. It is SO nice to see your lovely smile in spite of the boxes--or is that because of the boxes? Happy Wednesday--hoping it cools off for you in the Northwest.
