About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

Monochrome Maniacs

I've been away in the Washington rainforest with three girlfriends and just finished uploading my photos. I thought this one looked good in black & white so am sharing it for MM. We were staying in a cabin at the base of Mount Baker and one outing was to see Nooksack Falls. Surrounding the falls are thousands of very tall cedar and other evergreen trees and we had to wind our way through some quite narrow trails in order to get to the Falls. The dark forest was a tiny bit spooky and I would not want to go through here on a rainy day or in the twilight hours.

That looks intriguing and makes me feel I want to go in further!
Great photo!

Yes indeed, monochrome does give the bark clarity and denseness.

The tree trunks look as if they are crowding in to any walk area! Quite dramatic and not a place I would wander at night either!

The forest suddenly became unfriendly :-)

That's a great shot. I love to go deep in the forest. After you mentioned the shapes in my shot, I looked for them and found them. I love comments that make me look at my photographs again and find new aspects I missed.

The tall evergreens can be very spooky.

A very beautiful picture I love the contrasting tones.

Leslie, that photograph is incredible. There is so much depth of light and shadow, I would hardly call it monochrome, but a beautiful black and white photo -- which to me is quite different.

You should frame this!

A very atmospheric shot here. How lovely to escape with a few good friends for a trip away from it all, I trust a fine time was had by all?

Welcome home!
