About Me

Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

K is for KNOWLEDGE

There has been a little kink in our plans for the future. My dearest has been diagnosed with colon cancer but we don't yet know how serious it is. He will require surgery - and soon - and we're hoping that things will go our way in the surgery, convalescence, and prognosis for recovery.

When we were told last Friday, my first thought was that I need to educate myself. I went online and researched this disease and found out quite a bit. I believe that the more you learn about something, no matter what it is, the better equipped you are to deal with it. In this way, knowledge is the key to power. One piece of information I found was that this is one of the easiest cancers to cure if found early. So...fingers crossed.
Now, when we see all the doctors that will be involved in his treatment and recovery, we will be knowledgeable about what to expect and how to deal with this intrusion into our lives. Although my dearest has the disease, it affects us both. We will be fighting this thing together with as much knowledge and determination as possible.

With the knowledge of what we're facing, we can put on the armour needed to face the battle ahead.

It never seemed fair to me how much our family has gone through...even tho there are others worse off, it still sucks. But then I got to thinking...we don't take anything for granted. We've only become stronger and more determined in our fights against whatever comes our way. If we'd never dealt with adversity in the past, we wouldn't be able to deal with it now. As much as I would LOVE to have smooth sailing from here on out, I know that whatever bombards me/us next will be dealt with and gotten through with smiles and humour and, of course, the tears. But the important thing to remember is that we Will. Get. Through.

You're right..knowledge is power.
And, with power, you're in a good position to fight off "this intrusion" into your lives.
Take care, mimi

I can imagine the shock waves you felt at the news. But as you say Knowledge is armour. Sending strength.

For some reason I've missed your posts up to now. Thank you for stopping by my place and leaving a comment. Knowledge is a great word for the day. May you and your friend find comfort in the knowledge that you are going to fight this with all you've got.

Knowledge is a great choice for this week's letter. Brave too, as it is such an abstract concept to convey by way of an image. You put your knowledge to good use!

Agree that knowledge is power. But I'm guessing you might feel from time to time that this is a suboptimal way to start married life, and you have to allow yourself the right to feel that as well.

My prayers to you and yours.

On behalf of the ABC Wednesday team, thank you!

Dear Lesley,

While the news is not the best, trust and faith will get you through and knowledge is good.
Life has the strangest turns in it for us, but it is a rich tapestry and if some of the colours may seem a bit dull when you look up close, they all look bright when viewed together.. you can get through this and wonder why you thought oh dear...
Love and blessings

It was only recently that I learned of your reunion with your friend. I came by to wish you a happy Easter. I will do that but also add a prayer for you both. I know this is challenging news, but I am glad you are together to face it. My mother, who was widowed in 1995, met a high school friend at her 50th HS reunion and I am so glad she did. So sorry to hear this but so happy you're there for him.

Leslie,
Love and 'KIND' wishes are winging their way across the Atlantic to you and Lorne to support you in your battle.
My Mama had Bowel Cancer, at the age of 65.
After treatment, she recovered and lived to the age of 84.
As you say, it is one of the easiest cancers to treat!
Be strong my friends, Thinking of you both,
Di.xx
