About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

Frames of Mind II

The art show was fantastic. So many different styles and mediums including oils, acrylics, water colour, pencil and pencil crayon, black & white and colour photography, and collage. Jaclyn was the only one who included her book of poetry and many commented on her incredible talent. She was supported by her entire family, my friend Cathy, and two of her good friends. It truly was an eye-opening evening and made me feel that maybe, just maybe, I could have some photographs worthy of framing, too. Here are some photos of the evening. And yes, even baby Eden attended the premiere.

I'm so proud of Jaclyn and how hard she has worked on her paintings and her poetry. Unfortunately, the artists were limited in the number of pieces they could include and I was a bit disappointed that two others pictures Jaclyn had done were not there. Two of her pieces shown here now belong to friends of hers who love her work. They generously donated the use of the pictures for the duration of the show. Click on the photos to enlarge them and to see details of her work.

Outside the Arts Center is a sculpture of a donkey, made from scrap metal. I found it intriguing so had to take a few shots to share. It's intricately detailed and amusing at the same time.

Your daughter is very talented! I'm sure she got it from her mama! I love the donkey....it reminds me of the donkey in Shrek!

Wow! I am very impressed with Jaclyn's talent. I know her jewelry is gorgeous, but I had no idea who painted and wrote poetry as well. Jaclyn is looking fabulous, by the way! You have a nice looking family, all the way down to teeny, tiny Eden. What a cutie!

Lol I hate to rain on mom's parade of compliments saying I must have gotten my talent from her, but I do believe it comes from my dad...the writing I get from mom, though, that's a given.

And yeah, we do look quite a bit alike (like mother like daughter I know) and I'm past the point of 'being resigned to look like my mom.' I'm now at the point where I'm happy to look like such a beautiful woman, and I can only hope I age as gracefully.

Jaclyn is right that she doesn't get her artistic talent from me. But it does run in the family - her Dad was artistic along with my grandmother and one of my sisters. The writing? well yes, from me. lol Thanks my darling daughter for the lovely compliments. love ya!
