About Me

I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

Lite Combo

Well, after almost 2 years of working at losing weight (almost 50 lbs so far), I realized I need to step up the exercise to get my metabolism working even harder. However, with my bad back it's hard to find something that works. I'm tired of doing brisk walks around my neighbourhood, lovely though it is, and it seems ridiculous to drive somewhere just to go walking. So I checked out the local community fitness classes and found something called "Lite Combo." It's a mix of step aerobics, mat work, and strength training.

Off I went early this morning to see if I could keep up. Having done a bit of step aerobics a few years ago, I found this workout to be a bit easier for me. I get so mixed up and am so uncoordinated with the choreography, but I think I managed okay today. Right now I'm starting to feel a teensy bit stiff, but I think this class might just help. The only thing is, right now I'm starving! And it's earlier than usual for dinner, but I just have to go now and EAT. So um .... you'll have to excuse me. I'll try not to scarf down the contents of the entire fridge.

Good for you Leslie, I'm sure you'll enjoy it in the long run. That's what I say when I go to the gym. I'm so klutzy in these things too so that's why I like the weight training and treadmill.

Well, the class is not on next Monday because of Remembrance Day, so I'll go and do the exercise bike and the treadmill instead.

And, by the way, I did NOT cheat on my diet today even though I was sorely tempted.

It sounds like you are doing the right stuff. Well except for eating your refrigerator.

I go to bed every night and say to myself, "TOMORROW I will spend time on the treadmill." And yet....

Good morning,
I just got back in the gym. I even put in some yoga classes. Unfortunately the Yoga kills my left shoulder, so I may just have to skip that one.
Now my trainer is very fond of telling me to eat smaller meals 5 times a day. that way you are never ravenous. I know it sounds crazy. I do believe some of those are supposed to be nutritious protein shakes.
I am staying pretty much the same weight. But that has more to do with me and not the gym. But I am sticking to the routine. It helps me mentally keep my balance. And it feels good. Now if I could just get my legs looking like they did at 18.

Have an awesome day.

Hey Carol, I've been pretty much staying at the same weight, too, but I want to lose more...ergo the gym.

My arms are so sore today from the exercise. I've never had much upper body strength so that was quite the workout for me yesterday with that elastic thingy.

Today - the scales! *shudder*

Leslie, you're too funny! Weight training builds up muscle, and muscles burn the calories. So, between the treadmill and the weight training, you will be looking like Raquel Welch in no time at all. :-)

You're doing so well...!

I joined a club for approximately one year. Went from 170 lbs to 138 lbs. Felt fit as a horse. Then kidney stones took over. Now I'm at around 155 and satisfied. Still, it's good to exercise, not matter what the plan.

First of all congrats for losing and keeping off the 50 lbs. I lost 30 lbs but then went on a celebration binge. Now I am trying to relose the 30 lbs. You will find a ticker tape measuring my advance to this target on the side of my blog. I rather optimistically show a rabbit dashing the distance but I think a snail may have been more accurate. Anyway, let's cheer each other on.

Just came by and browsed your blog. Some really nice photos of autumn. Combo class sounds fun never mind the stiffness that'll pass. Now reward yourself with healthy snacks and resist those chocs. if you can.

KISSA Welcome to my blog and thx re the photos. I was in England last November and enjoyed your record temps. My muscles are feeling better today so will go on a long walk to enjoy more of the autumn. I put a comment on your blog and will visit often.

Good luck with the exercise. It can also be good for the soul as you face the grieving process.
