About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

Local Prank on National News

Yes, by golly, my little corner of the world has gone national! And I'm sure my two daughters are so proud of the school that they graduated from.
A prank that was meant to be funny and to show school spirit ended up with about a dozen senior girls getting into BIG trouble. During half-time, the girls ran across the school's football field wearing nothing but bikini underpants and duct tape around their breasts and sprayed the opposing team with silly string.
Some parents were outraged, but most of the students attending the game thought it was hilarious.
However, the principal had to take a stand and the girls are suffering the consequences. They had previously been warned by the school not to do it, but they went ahead with it anyway. The girls now have to do a variety of things, including sending letters of apology to individuals and coming up with a plan to prevent this type of thing from happening again by working with younger students in the school.
The incident was posted on youtube and made news all the way across the country. Anyone in the USA hear about it?
Well, that's my kids' school for ya.

Omigosh, that's too funny! Oh, man, can't kids even have fun anymore? What the heck is so wrong with what they did? It was just good, clean fun - a funny high school prank. Where is the teacher's sense of humor?

Everyone is so politically correct these days, no one knows how to laugh anymore!

I see you have changed your moniker from "Leslie" to "Me:"

I might add, I'll bet the boys on both teams enjoyed it too. *heh*

The SDSS guys were prepared but the others were probably too addled because they ended up losing! Ha Ha! I'm only laughing because it wasn't my own two girls getting into trouble.
btw, moniker was a goof - now fixed.

You know Leslie I did hear about this...and well I just think it's a great prank....I mean the engineers get to hang cars from buildings....so girls get to spray players with some silly string...and run half clad across the field....so what....I ask you...how many dads go and watch fights where the girls each round go around scantly dressed holding up numbers...or what about Deal or no Deal..and the women on that show..all dress provocatively ....give me a break...it was a prank...pure and simple....remember the days of streaking....everyone thought it was hilarious...and bold...at least these girls thought to attempt to cover their tops..albeit with tape....

Parents...need to pick their fights..this one I don't think is one of them...I have three daughters...they would never do this...but they too would see the humor in it...and that is all it is...a prank.....

Parents energies need to spent rallying together to get better funding for classes....smaller class sizes....and such....

If Eden does something like this when she's a teenager, I fear her safety from the wrath of her daddy.

When I went to SDSS there was no streaking. Everyone was too stoned to have that much energy.

I wish I had been as brave as them at their age to do such a stunt :-)

Oh, dear! But the school seems to be reacting positively to it in the tasks they have now set the girls.

A couple of thoughts. First, as I am now in my 50s, these kids look like ... kids! I think if were 17years old and this happened, well, I would see it a lot differently!

Secondly, I have a feeling this is what they will be talking about at their 40th class reunion! It's not the things we did NOT do that we talk about or remember -- it's the things we DID do! So, sure, I understand the school's point of view but it was fun seeing kids being kids!

I always like to see people laughing! Even now, I have some kids in my classes that are always talking and sometimes I get a bit cross. Then I think, hey, they are having fun and that's okay...!

Nothing new under the sun. Oh kids will be kids.
I find it funny but I understand why the principal had to take a stand.

Hmmm. Another good reason to emigrate to Canada!

Now let's hope none of our former students were part of that bunch!

HI mom. this is your son-in-law. My thoughts about the girls streaking is " GOOD FOR THEM!!" Everybody these days have to be so politically correct. What ever happend to the days where people just laughed?? Back in the day I'm sure there were things like this in your school or my parents' school that happend. I know in my high school all sorts of things happend-- streaking, pranks on teachers, pranks on students, and even the teachers got in on it. And we laughed!! sure some people got warnings but that was it. It was all in FUN! Including stunts mooning everyone on grad! So I say leave them alone! Let them have their fun. And for those of you who know, I have a daughter. If she did it I WOULD be proud! It's all in harmless fun. Something they can look back on and say wow, I did that!
