About Me

Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

It's Beginning to Look a Bit Like Christmas

Last night was my first Christmas function - a potluck with the ladies of my church. After a sumptuous feast of chicken, beef, mandarin orange salad, shortbread cookies and butter tarts, we waddled to the living room to sing carols. Between songs, we discussed our annual hamper drive for a home for abused women and children. It was a lot of fun and no one wanted to leave.

The evening got me in the spirit so I'm heading out to Canadian Tire to see if I can get some new LED lights to decorate my front door. Since I don't have a ladder (and am a bit scared of climbing up to do the top of the house, anyway) I think I'll stick to the door. Since living here, I haven't decorated any part of the exterior of the house and the neighbours probably think I'm either Jewish or a Scrooge.

So off I go...wish me luck that I'll be able to find the lights and do the door.

I love Christmas lights and candles and decorations. Do show us pics when you're done Leslie.

Here's an easy X-mas project for you: By "one" (yes, "one") glass block and drill a hole in it. Next, stuff a string of lights in it. Then tie a bow around it and top it off with a few pinecones. Plug it in and ... yep, looks like ice ice baby.

"Buy." Not "By." See what happens when you get all excited over the holidays.

Well, I did manage to get the lights up (what a job! never done it before) but I'll wait until it's a bit darker before taking a photo. I now desperately need a manicure after hitting my freezing fingers a couple of times with the hammer. The tree is up and the decorations are all scattered throughout the family room. I'll put on some Christmas music and do the tree after supper. It's First Advent this Sunday already!

That sounds nice. My first christmas do is lunch on Wednesday with my Eastern Star ladies group, to thank all the cancer workers for their efforts.
I just did my front door today. Pines garland with sprigs of really verigated holly from my tree and a few faux pointsettias. Look out for a photo real soon! I will wait as long as I can to put the tree up coz I am short on space. I may go look for a new 'skinny tree'.
I love Jr's ice cube idea!

With the LED lights, I see a resurgence of massive Christmas outdoor light decorating... electricity won't be so much of a factor now :)

woohoooo !!!

Did you find them? I know what you mean about being scared to use the ladder - at least if there are two of you one could hold it. I'd love to put up some balcony lights this year but cannot see where the plug could go!

Oh, I see you did get them up. Well done!

My friend's husband is a terror for Christmas lights, the more garish and flasy the better! WE call him Gadget Man because he's always buying 'gadgets', using them once and then putting them in a cupboard forever! But I do love Christmas and simple lights.
