About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

Saturday Photo Hunt - Bright

At first I thought of bright as the perception of dark or light, but then I thought of bright as being something with intelligence. Right away I thought of my 4-year-old grandson and how we've always noticed how bright he is. As soon as he was born, those little eyes were looking around everywhere as though he were thinking, "Wow! So this is life! Cool!" He met every milestone and some were met ahead of time and we've discovered that he's left-handed, like his Daddy.

My friend Josie did a post on left-handedness a while ago and you can read about it here. Basically, she found out that "left-handedness is dominated by the right side of the brain, the side that is associated with artistic function, " and that "left-handed people think differently than right-handed folks. Lefties think in an arc, or view the bigger picture, while right-handed people are more detail oriented."

I'm just so thrilled to be watching this little boy learn something new every day. One day not long ago when I arrived for a visit, he was playing with a caterpillar and he just had to tell me all about them and how they turn into butterflies. I thought that was pretty bright for a 4-year-old to understand that. Of course, he still thinks he's going to marry his sister when they grow up. lol

Here he is at age 3 1/2 (before the "big boy" haircut) when he learned to print his name.

And here he is (after the "big boy" haircut) showing me his pet caterpillar.

My sons used to ask if they could marry me, I'm sure they have had second thoughts!
My youngest son James had gorgeous blond curls and I remember once putting a little girl's bonnet on him and taking a photo. I don't think he remembers those days.
And yes, it's interesting why some people are left handed and the reasons why.
Have a good weekend Leslie.

My youngest son (now 25) is left handed, and my ex inlaws , tried to teach him with his right...I was having none of it..but it does make me nervous when he is doing somethings...but then it could work the same for him..

Your grandchild is beautiful. My daughter and her Dad are both left handed. That research is interesting. Like your grandson my daughter is very bright. As a matter of fact she's in her second year of law school (international and human rights law). Happy weekend.

Aw, Leslie, he is soooo cute. And he is as bright as a button!

Does his sister know he wants to marry her? *heh* I wanted to marry my father. And he was left-handed. :-)

My son Ryan is in Joey scouts and they shake hands with their left hand. Yesterday I was at their 18th Birthday Party and one of the leaders thrust their left hand out to say hello. I was quite flumoxed. It takes some getting used to.

Lovely shots. Ryan only has a few curls now and again.

It's strange how a haircut can change a little boy so much! Makes him grow up in an instant.
Nice take on the theme.

Have a great week!

Lovely post Leslie, he is a bright little boy. Too bad about his curls.

Adorable photographs, he does look bright. I use both hands equally, I think I was probably left handed when young but forced to use my right.

Love both pics, but love the grimey hand to match the sweet smile in the 2nd one best! Now that stirs a bright smile!

Somehow I didn't really watch my two sons grow. I now have 5 grandsons through marrying Pete but no real ones yet. However, my niece and nephew by my young sister have given me the chance to enjoy seeing them grow. What a lovely take on the word 'bright' - thanks Leslie.

Awww..this is so sweet! I followed your link that Anne had included at her blog as I am also a leftie! I guess we do think in an arc, but when you're under the sign of the Twins, it makes things even crazier!
