I've noticed quite a few people are involved in Skywatch Fridays. One afternoon in November, a friend and I were walking along the dyke trail just outside of my little village when I saw the sun trying to peek through the dark grey clouds as a storm approached.
Then, I looked towards the east and a cacophonous racket and saw thousands of Canada geese flying back towards the waterfowl refuge. I think they'd been having a trial run before taking off south for the winter.

Great light and rays on the first one. The birds are a nice sight, flying in their formations.

That is a wonderful capture of the rays in the sky. I do not think I have ever seen that big of a formation of geese at one time.

Thanks ida, andrea, misty dawn. I was at the right place at the right time, that's all. I did enter the sun/clouds photo in a contest and did fairly well. And I'd never seen such a huge formation of geese ever in my life, either, and I've lived here most of my life!
I guesss the geese saw the godawful weather in the American Southwest and said, "Hell with this!"
Ivan, probably right - it started to get god-awful cold that day and we didn't stay out long at all! lol

Hi Leslie! Glad you joined Sky Watch. I love both your pictures. No one else has said this but I see a figure in the bottom of the geese formation. There is the back of a head, a shoulder, the head is bowed and the figure could be praying. Am I nuts???

Oh Leslie those are fabulous photos....you know I have been trying to get into the habit of keeping my camera in the car...today especially, I could have kicked myself....as I was driving home Mt. Arrowsmith was just so fantastic looking the sun shining upon it...but you guessed it I forgot the camera at home...
